Our newest program, SOAR Summer Bridge program, ran June 27, 2016 – August 12, 2016 and was a collaboration with the Morris School District, Prevention is Key, The Morris Arts, The Sheriff’s Office and Grow it Green. The School District provided instruction in Math and Literacy 3 hours a day, while the other time was spent engaging in leadership, cultural and civic development. We had 17 students made up of low to moderate-income Latino American (70%) and African American (30%) middle school children. Through Table of Hope, we were able to offer breakfast and lunch, at no cost, to participants.
- Fifty percent of the children were previous SOAR graduates. This gives us a great opportunity to continue to strengthen and build on the support that was started with these students from 5th grade. We are working on developing metrics with the School District to measure the progress of the SOAR students through middle school.
