Nine years ago, the concept of Spring Street Community Development Corporation was a seed planted by Bethel Church of Morristown. The seed was planted in 2011, but before it emerged Hurricane Irene hit the ground in which it was planted.
Bethel was devastated with over 4 feet of water destroying the basement which included the kitchen and fellowship hall. Many members of our community responded with a lot of hard work as well as financial contributions. Through a very generous donor (over $1M) the fellowship hall was renovated and the kitchen was expanded and transformed into a commercial kitchen.
The ground for the seed to grow was restored better than before. Due to the significant generosity, Bethel wanted to do more for the community. Table of Hope was established in September 2013 to serve meals five nights a week to anyone in need of a “warm meal and a smile”. It has become a place where “Hope Starts and the Community Gathers to Share”.
Other programs emerged from Spring Street CDC such as Student Outreach and Academic Reinforcement (SOAR) where tutoring, leadership training and college access programs are provided to Morris County students.
The Spring Street CDC emerged to impact families throughout Morris County with over 100,000 meals served through the Table of Hope and over 400 kids mentored.
Spring Street CDC continues to work to meet the needs of the community with other programs such as the Table of Hope Mobile Food Pantry, Healthy Women Healthy Families, and New Life Recovery and Reentry.
